DOCTORS Co., Ltd., conducted joint research on a medication management system using aluminum foil with an opening detection function together with UACJ Corporation (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President: Miyuki Ishihara), UACJ Foil Corporation (head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Akito Imaizumi; hereinafter referred to as “UACJ Foil”), and SAP Japan Co., Ltd., (head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuzuru Fukuda; hereinafter referred to as “SAP Japan”) and has started verification testing.

Aluminum foil with an opening detection function has been developed by applying an insulating layer and a circuit to processed aluminum foil for pharmaceutical packaging, using printing technology. This management system detects when a patient takes medicine by breaking the circuit-printed foil, sends that information via a communication device, and gives notice to the attending physician. Medication managed by doctors can prevent patients from taking too much medicine or forgetting to take medicine.

UACJ and UACJ Foil are engaged in the development and manufacture of circuit-printed foil, SAP Japan provides the software for the data system, and DOCTORS provides the Doctors Cloud™ service with more than 400 organized expert doctors responsible for the provision of the verification test field as well as opinion feedback from medical professionals. The four companies will jointly proceed with the development of this system, aim for commercialization by 2022, and achieve establishment of a system that will contribute to the promotion of patients’ health through medication management.
