Doctors Co., Ltd., (head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; president & CEO: Takao Yanagawa; hereinafter referred to as “DOCTORS”), which provides development and distribution and online medical care support in its business scope of medical DX, and Canon IT Solutions Inc. (head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; president & CEO: Akira Kanazawa; hereinafter referred to as “Canon ITS”), which is a group company of Canon Marketing Japan Inc., will launch the Digital Healthcare Development Support Project on May 20, 2022, to comprehensively support learning, inter-company collaboration, study, and practice for commercialization in order to accelerate their joint support to companies that work on digital healthcare even further.

Figure 1: Details of the Digital Healthcare Development Support Project

In recent years, the number of companies that develop medical- and cloud-based digital healthcare services aiming to enter new markets is increasing because of the advent of a super-aged society and the outbreak of COVID-19. However, it is also true that there is a significant barrier specific to medical care for the cloud service that deals with medical information, such as evidence and reputational risk from a medical perspective, and compliance with laws and regulations, including the certification of medical devices and medical information guidelines.

In the Digital Healthcare Development Support Project, we will support companies attempting to enter the digital healthcare field to develop new digital healthcare services in line with two guidelines by three ministries* according to the essence of medicine. DOCTORS will plan and propose initiatives of companies from the perspective of medical workplace by making use of knowledge of more than 600 expert doctors, most of whom are medical specialists. At the same time, Canon ITS will support the design, development and operation of cloud-based services by the security by Auditor for Information Security (CAIS-Auditor), Cloud Security Auditor, and Medical Information System Certified Auditor-Associate as well as the advanced expertise and solid IT technologies related to the cloud that include Amazon Web Services (AWS). We will achieve highly useful digital healthcare services that are directly linked to the needs of the medical front by maximizing the strengths of both companies.

DOCTORS and Canon ITS will contribute to the development of healthcare in Japan by supporting the creation of true digital healthcare services with no divergence from the raw opinions on the medical front through support and activities for companies that are working on digital healthcare arising from our collaboration.
